Sergeant Major Daniel A. Soto

Sergeant Major Soto enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 2003 and graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina in April 2003. Upon graduation from Recruit Training, Private First Class Soto reported to The School of Infantry, Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Geiger, North Carolina where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0311, Rifleman.

In June 2003, Sergeant Major Soto reported to his first duty station, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines (2/6), Fox Company aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C. where he served as a squad automatic weapon gunner, team leader, and squad leader. While assigned to 2/6, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal meritoriously in 2004 while deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of a Unit Deployment Program. Corporal Soto deployed July 2004 to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Embassy Security. In 2005, he deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM to Fallujah, Iraq where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Upon returning from deployment, Sergeant Soto received orders for Marine Combat Instructor, Camp Geiger, N.C., where in January 2008 was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 2009, Staff Sergeant Soto received orders to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines aboard Kaneohe Bay, HI. In November 2009, Staff Sergeant Soto joined Echo Company and served as Platoon Commander. He then deployed in October 2010 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. While deployed, Staff Sergeant Soto was promoted combat meritoriously to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in June 2011. He then transferred to Weapons Company and served as Platoon Sergeant for the Combined Anti-Armor Platoon. With Weapons Company, Gunnery Sergeant Soto deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Upon returning from deployment, Gunnery Sergeant Soto was ordered to Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic, Virginia Beach, VA in March of 2013.

While at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic, Gunnery Sergeant Soto was assigned as Course Manager/Supervisor for the Visit Board Search and Seizure training group which trained Sailors in Maritime boarding actions and tasks. Gunnery Sergeant Soto was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to 1st Transportation Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton California.

In February 2015, Gunnery Sergeant Soto was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and served as the First Sergeant for Bravo Company. In April 2016, First Sergeant Soto transferred to Landing Support Company where he served until September 2016 before being selected to serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-CR-CC Logistics Combat Element. Upon completion of the deployment in November 2017, First Sergeant Soto was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company as the company First Sergeant.

In March 2018, First Sergeant Soto executed orders to 3d Intelligence Battalion aboard Okinawa Japan and served as the First Sergeant for Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence Company. In April 2019, First Sergeant Soto was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and assigned to serve as the Sergeant Major for Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma. Sergeant Major Soto was then assigned orders in July 2021 to Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as the Sergeant Major for 1st Battalion, 11th Marines.

In January 2023, Sergeant Major Soto was assigned orders to Guam where he currently serves as the Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Soto's personal decorations include the Purple Heart Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6th Award with Valor x2), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Combat Action Ribbon (2nd Award), and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
