Sabånan Fadang Mañaina Reinterment Ritual
Toni ‘Malia’ Ramirez, Guam historian, performs a CHamoru ritual at Sabånan Fadang on Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Blaz, April 5, 2024. The Guam State Historic Preservation Office hosted a reinterment ritual aboard MCB Camp Blaz for the reinterment of ancestral bone fragments found during cultural resource investigations in Sabånan Fadang. During the construction of the Blaz main cantonment, archeologists discovered five sites each with at least one burial dating to the Latte Period. All CHamoru burials at Sabånan Fadang were preserved in place. The bone fragments, discovered outside of a burial context, were wrapped in muslin and placed in woven baskets before being reinterred amongst the burials. (Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
