Camp Blaz honors National Blood Donor Month
MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BLAZ, Guam – On Tuesday, January 27, in honor of National Blood Donor Month, Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz will be hosting a blood drive, with support from the Armed Service Blood Program, based at Naval Hospital Guam. This will be the 3rd donation event held at Camp Blaz to-date, which will contribute to the previously donated 52 units of blood, valued at $22,610.34. “It costs me almost nothing,” said Cpl. Braiden Grissom, data systems administrator, Headquarters Company, Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz.“I am able and willing to sit in a chair for 20-30 minutes to contribute towards providing a vital resource for my community” Blood drive technicians come equipped with the capacity to collect 50 donations/units of blood, per donation drive. Previously, Camp Blaz has averaged 25 donations per drive, but with increased outreach and coordination, the goal is to reach the maximum of 50. “The goal is 50 units” said one of the blood drive coordinators, Sgt. Kendell Jones, personnel noncommissioned officer in charge, Headquarters Company, Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz.“50 units of donation have the capacity to impact 150 people – coming from an installation of about 160, I think 50 units is a reasonable goal we’re hoping to achieve.” Join our Marines and Camp Blaz personnel on January 27 to maximize donation contributions. Those with base access may participate by visiting the Camp Blaz Gym from 0900-1130, and 1200-1300. Any contribution can significantly impact the life of someone in our community.
